Hello World Changers,
I’ve really enjoyed getting to know many of you in the FB Group…hint, hint…if you are building an online presence through video, you need to come on over and join the marketing, monetizing, world changing community we are building over on FB.
So I have a truth bomb to drop on you today. We are all on YouTube because we have a message we want to share, right? In order to make a difference, we’ve got to get seen. The truth is we need those views. But posting a video and hoping it goes viral is just unrealistic. Online video marketers have to think strategically about how to get our videos to rank in the second largest search engine in the world. Which means we have to do more than point and record a video. “Shoot it and they will view” is not a good business strategy. On the blog I share ways to “optimize” your videos so YouTube is working for you and not against you.
Optimization is a long word that can be a bit intimidating. But don’t let it scare you. Just think of it as the ultimate goal for your video. To be seen and understood by YouTube and for YouTube to work for you, you have to speak its language. When you tell it what it needs to know about your video, you feed it what it needs to understand your video’s content, goal and audience, it will go to work for you. See, YouTube can literally work for you, but you first have to work with it!
Optimizing your video is working WITH and not against YouTube to get your video in front of as many of the right people as possible. Here’s a quick checklist to get you optimized on YouTube. These simple tricks can make the difference between being seen and hearing crickets. So simple and yet so many people overlook the power of optimization. Not you, though. Here you go:
Video Optimization Checklist
❏ Name mp4 file with keywords before uploading to YouTube (for example, HowtoOptimizeVideo.mp4 not MOV123.mp4)
❏ Title video with keywords and clear benefit to viewer (for example, “How to Optimize YouTube Videos,” not “My First Video”)
❏ Create a description default (so every video on your channel has a basic description you can tweak later)
❏ Add a transcript to both the description and the option to upload subtitles to the video directly
❏ Add annotations to your calls to action in-video using annotations and/or cards
❏ Upload a video cover image (thumbnail)
❏ Set social sharing to Google+ and Twitter as “on” by default
❏ Add end cards or a final call to action at the end of all your videos
Ok. I know there are some of these items that leaves you scratching your head. Don’t give up before you get started. Come on over to the Facebook page and get your questions answered. There are people just like you over there trying to get their videos optimized and in front of as many people as possible.
